Winter Springs remains one of the safest communities in Central Florida.
Mayor McCann has consistently supported the personnel, equipment, training, technology, and emergency facilities our police officers need to protect residents and respond effectively during both everyday emergencies and major disasters.
Accomplishments
• Supported public safety efforts that contributed to a 23% reduction in crime over the past two years
• Successfully wrote the grant application that secured funding for police body-worn cameras
• Supported improved pay, modern equipment, advanced training, and new technology for Winter Springs police officers
• Under Mayor McCann’s leadership, the City secured two complementary federal disaster-mitigation grants to advance a planned 2,200-square-foot hurricane safe room and Emergency Operations Center at the Police Department
• Supported plans for the new facility to protect as many as 55 officers and first responders during severe weather, withstand winds of at least 160 mph, and maintain emergency operations through a permanent backup generator
• Strengthened partnerships with county and regional public safety agencies
